Our Work: Partners in Renewable Energy

The Pembina Institute works as a member of the following organizations and networks that focus specifically on further advancing renewable energy in Canada.

Canadian Renewable Energy Alliance (CanREA)

CanREAPembina is a founding member of the Canadian Renewable Energy Alliance (CanREA). CanREA is an alliance of Canadian civil society organizations from the non-profit or voluntary sector that hold a common interest in promoting a global transition to energy conservation and efficiency and the use of low-impact renewable energy.

Members of CanREA believe that this transition is needed to address global climate change, pollution, global energy supply, human security, poverty eradication and economic sustainability. CanREA recognizes that our window of opportunity is limited and that this global transition must begin now through individual country action and international cooperation using a variety of market instruments, regulatory measures, public education and voluntary measures.

Pembina has played a major role in the activities of CanREA, designing and hosting its website, co-organizing workshops and preparing issue papers. CanREA's prime objective is to see Canada adopt and implement a long-term National Renewable Energy Strategy and take a lead international role in the global transition to renewable energy.

The Clean Air Renewable Energy (CARE) Coalition

CARE CoalitionThe CARE Coalition is a group of corporate, environmental non-governmental organizations and municipal governments established to accelerate the development of Canada's renewable energy industry.

The coalition has been instrumental in provision of production tax credits for new wind power projects and continues to work tirelessly to achieve other incentives and policies that support renewable energy. Pembina is a member of CARE's Policy Committee.

Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA)

CASAThe Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA) is a multi-stakeholder partnership, composed of representatives selected by industry, government and non-government organizations, with a mandate to assist in managing air quality issues in Alberta. CASA is an advisory body to the Alberta Government on energy efficiency and renewable energy. Through Pembina involvement in CASA, we are working to have strong provincial policies established to support renewable energy and energy efficiency deployment in the province.

International Partnerships

Pembina belongs to the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP), a global collaboration among governments, the private sector and non-governmental organizations that supports policy and regulatory initiatives and facilitates financing. We also work with organizations in the United States on state level renewable energy and energy efficiency assessments in support of greenhouse gas reduction strategies.
